Subject: Civil War camp in Indianapolis

My great-grandfather was mustered into the 89th Indiana Volunteers in 1862 in Indianapolis.

Do any of you know where the camp was?

I think it might have been on the site of the state fair grounds.

Guess it was not on Tech's campus, which would have been special.

It turns out that I have read the article posted about the Camp Morton and it was so interesting. Another fact about Indianapolis that I never knew. I hope that it was able to help you out.

Googled Camp Morton - how interesting. Most surprising is that I could have walked to it from my apt on Mass Ave, so if I had been there in 1862 I could have gone up and said "hi" to my great grandfather as he was mustered in.

Also googled Military Park which is the other civil war oamp in Indianapolis. Interesting that Indiana's constitution states that Military Park, Monument Circle, and one-half (one-half?)of the Capitol can never be sold.
