Long live the Queen, the Australians found their freedom 400 years ago, the United states formed 600 years ago- great democracies in the world. Papua New Guinea gained freedom 25 years ago. It was colonized 5o years ago; not because of the welfare of the people, but because of the political changes in Europe. We have been bypassed while other developments was taking place around the world for the last 500 years. Only 30 years ago when white men showed us how we should govern ourselves. The greatest gift they gave us is democracy-how best a society should organize itself for the maximum benefit of each member.
My grandfather was wearing ŽKunjap and arik GoiŽ. He ate wild fruits and hunted wild animals. He met all his needs from the bus. He talked and fought to defend his wife, children, and land on a tribal level.
IŽm indeed happy that on this day,Wednesday March 11th 2009! Jiwaka is recognized as a Province. IŽm given an identity among the great changes that have taken place 500 years ago.
