Go with what your doc says. He knows first hand as opposed to from a book. And the trainers don't know you personally to know if your resting rate is average or a lot higher, so they wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what your rate should be. the chart is just a suggestion of AVERAGEs for those age ranges. And there are tons of reasons why you wouldn't fit into the range listed on there, despite your age ;)

Obviously if any problems do arise, talk to your doc, but certainly consult him on this issue as he's much more knowledgable (no offense to any fellow trainers out there, I mean you no disrespect, but I know I wouldn't challenge the word of a medical doc against my book training).

You will know when it's too high...your body does give you signs ;)
