Follow whichever one you want, or neither! if you're on the calorie plan, it's probably easiest to follow the plans as they decribe the portion sizes but if you are on the carb plan, you can have as much meat and veggies as you want. I have both books too and used the workbook in my challenge class when I started the diet because it was before the big book came out. I don't eat a lot of stuff, so I didn't follow the menu at all...and I still lost ;) it's really just a suggestion or a guide to help people who might need ideas for meals or snacks. but you don't have to follow it to a T.
