Hello.

I've heard so many things about Target Heart Rate and "fat burning zones" that I honestly don't know what to tell my members anymore. Curves International says that when most women start they'll excercise in the 60-70% range but I've found the complete opposite; the majority of the ladies that start working out at Curves are fairly out of shape and easily climb in the 85% range and above. I've done some of my own research online and found that the percentages on the Target Heart Rate chart basically just tell you how intense of a workout you're getting. Here's a good article:

My opinion is that if you're in the 50% you should be working harder, but that anywhere else on the chart is probably OK (unless you're pregnant, have high blood pressure, very overweight, or some other conditions).

I think the most important thing is to listen to what your body tells you (do you feel like you could safely work harder or do you feel like you could pass out)
