I felt like total junk during the first week. I was tired, crappy and did NOT like myself but that's what withdrawl is like LOL. YOU WILL MAKE IT THRU and feel much better! your body is just used to more carbs and it's "rewiring" to burn the fat it's stored for the winter rather than the carbs you eat at each meal. It's very typical to also not be very hungry during the first week or even later on. but just remember to eat every few hours, SOMETHING, and you'll be fine. I say you should probably try to stick out phase 1 for the full week then if it's still horrible, skip the second week (if you were doing the second week) and move to phase 2. But I have a feeling you might feel better after you've completed the full 7 days. It's really tough to get that sugar out of your system, but you WILL feel better! Then you'll get to the point where extra carbs will make you feel sleepy and lack energy...funny how that works!

Oh and the average person is supposed to have about 200 carbs but most americans probably get twice that....160-180 is a diabetic limit, just think about it that way.

I had one day during my first week where I was just totally miserable. I ate something I didn't think was allowed and felt better immediatly and it wasn't even full of carbs, it was hot wings! LOL :) but I was just so turned off by the food we had at home that I couldn't even think about eating any of it! LOL....

But I really think finishing a full week will be good and then if it's really still giving you problems, add the 20-40 carbs and see how that works.

And wanna know something? when I started the diet, I had to count broccoli and asparagus. now they are free! and they aren't exactly that low, but the benefits outweigh the carb count. So I had to count those, imagine how few carbs I was getting that I would have to count today! EEK! Thank goodness for the new book!

Hope that gives you some ideas
