It works if you use it right.

Be sure to cross your legs and tuck them under the machine, that way you won't be squeezing the bar in the middle which can take away from the effectiveness.

Be sure to use your abs and not your arms when moving from side to side and limit the movement to about 10am to 2pm or even less.

And be sure to keep your nose between the handles....we snuggle up to the bar with our backs straight, but I think that might be different at other clubs. I've noticed QUITE a bit of difference to the point where I noticed that one side was getting smaller than the other because ours doesn't have equal resistence on both sides....so I just so extra crunches for the left side after the workout.

And if this still doesn't work, then ask a trainer/owner for any other tips or what you should be looking for. This is a MAJOR problem area for me too, and I tend to try and get to this machine three times....
