I just wanted to say thank you for your writing. Your words have truly put some peace to my heart.
I just received word today that my grandmother passed away. I am so far from the rez (at college in the "big" city) and won't be able to see my family for the next couple days. Your story about your grandmother has touched me so much. I felt like you took a memory from my childhood and were retelling it to comfort me. My grandmother was such an integral part of my life, it is that way with every reservation raised Navajo. But when i left for school, I never really returned home. Success in LIFE seemed to have become my main goal...much different then the way i was raised. What you wrote about the clouds...my grandmother would always tell me the same thing. I had feelings of guilt, distance, and regret tonight when i realized that I could never have those talks with my grandmother. That she was never able to see that I had been living the way she taught me. I know she was proud of me and my accomplishments.....but deep down i know she just wants me to....WALK IN BEAUTY. thank you.

Yahtahey Stephanie David, if I might be so rude as to say your name-
I have on occasion been asked why I write, and I guess in a way it is for my own people. Many of us are far from home and we live in a world far removed from our youth. I just wanted to say thank you for lettimg me about your loss, it brought thoughts of my family and some of the times we shared together. It also reminded me we have to be strong to go on.
