Like you, we THOUGHT it would be easier...nope. Its farther, about 1 hr longer and the grade up the backside is not fun. Super tight corners... REALLY TIGHT... I did it in my 19' Explorer, I wouldnt do it with the excurions and the 28' I have since gone up the front side twice and wont go the back route again.
