I would not have expected the symptoms you describe just by getting air in the fuel system. Yes it does take a few minutes to get going properly again, but I would be concerned about the lack of compression when you try to hand start. (I have never been able to start mine by hand because it is so difficult to overcome the compression!). Is the lack of compression still there? If not, it could be that something got under one of the valves & has now cleared itself. If it still lacks compression you are probably looking at a strip down job & grinding in valves etc. (Not that difficult - I've stripped mine down several times!). If you do decide to do it I can probably give you a few pointers, but you will get the best advice from Pete Stevens of Marine Power at Bursledon
