In reply to: Paul Britton 's message, "Trapper 501 engine replacement" on 15/01/07 15:18:23

In the mid 90's I replaced my Yanmar YSM8 with a Yanmar 2GM20 (2 cylinder 18hp) in my 1980 Trapper 500. I considered a Volvo Penta 2000 series but there was insufficient vertical space - I was later glad of the decision to stick with Yanmar.

The change was relatively painless with minimal or no modifications to engine bed, shaft alignment or controls but if your original was non-standard from the factory (Yanmar was Trapper's standard at that time) your situation could be different.
