I have experimented with sheet to tiller steering on my T300 very successfully. Underwater arrangement of T500/1 similar so would probably work ok. Only got involved with this after umteenth Autohelm failure.

Close hauled best results. Mainsheet taken to block on "uphill" side of cockpit & back to tiller. Shockcord on other side to balance. On one notable occasion Star Trapper sailed itself all the way from Sark to Alderney in "no hands" mode. Followed every windshift impeccably.
