My mast does much the same - you can feel it when the boat's tied up and you're down below.

My rigging was incredibly slack when I got the boat - the previous owners had replaced the chainplates, and eventually I had to have 6 inches taken off the shrouds. The inners are still a little slack tho - that's the next job.

Tightening up the rigging seems to have got rid of quite a bit of the weather helm, too.
