Hi Paul,

I am in Furzefield creek, just opposite Itchenor, and I have noticed a lot of barnacles where it sits in the mud. It's something that I am going to live with - a consequence of a drying mooring. If it gets to be a real problem I think the only answer is a full tide mooring. I have been told (how much truth there is in this, I don't know) that the mud saturates the antifouling hence the black colour and there is nothing then to stop marine life growing on it.

As for the hydraulics, I really like the system. For short handed sailing it is great, I can't imagine being able to motor the boat up to the mooring while raising the keel singlehanded with any other system. Over winter I leave the weight off the hydraulics. Let the keel rest on the trailer.

Giles
