The T500 rudder has known problems and why the T501 rudder was re-designed.
In Canada there has been a number of CC27 Mk1 (from which the T500 began as an Anstey Yachts licenced build) that have modified rudders - see instructions for building at:
http://www.cc27association.com/fixes/rudder/rudder.html

With reference a replacement engine for the T500 - I replaced Beachcomber's with a Yanmar 2GM20 after having to turn down a Volvo Penta offer because it wouldn't fit. Very glad I did, the Yanmar has been superb and a perfect match for the past eight years.

Brian.
