The Genny winches on Samara are rather sluggish at turning, and I wondered what my options are. Replacing them seems an extreme move at the moment - I'd trather wait for some boat show bargains :-)

Does anybody have any old documents/pdf's or top tips on how I should proceed with servicing them? My current plan (having never seen the inside of a winch close up) is to :

1) Remove the circlip on the top
2) lift off the drum and gasp.
3) remove ball bearings (if accessible) clean in meths, dry, apply new winch grease and put back together.

Anybody got any other ideas - am sure some TLC will give them a new lease of life.
