Don't know about the bilge keeler's but I can tell you abou the fin keel trapper. Fantastic is a word that springs to mind. Bloody fantastic. Fast stable, very sea kindly motion and with plenty of room for there size, providing you don't mind making up the saloon double each day enough room for your family. The sea berth under the cockpit does make a good store, but also is a great place to sleep whilst on passage. What to look out for. Well owners from this site are quite fastidious it seems but problems exist with chain plates and cracking around them. Ensure that through deck fittings are water tight as the roof has a balsa core and will rot if allowed to get wet. Most have a 150% genoa and used to have a roller boom. We have a fully battened main with three reefs. Out in a seven not so long ago getting home at an average of 6 knots, never uncomfortable or felt that she was overpressed. They have a long tiller and you will learn what a trapper ankle is very soon. We have a 1gm 10 Yanmar that is qite sufficient for our needs albeit a little noisy. Many variants have been fitted and many owners here will swear there's is the best. I feel as comfortable on my Trapper in a blow, as I do whilst crewing on a friends Dufour 41. Choose wisely, seek help from the forum and become a big grinning sailor.
