I probably could get a maximum of around 6 knots with my 2GM20 and 3-bladed prop (never tried but the theoretical maximum hull speed would be ca. 6.5 knots) and I've had over 9 knots reaching under headsail alone in a 40, gusting to 45, knot apparent wind.

In 1974 I skippered a Scampi half-tonner (Elad) in a NECRA race from Hartlepool to IJmuiden. Closing the Dutch coast with a strong NW wind and steep wavefronts to surf down, we had the knotmeter hard against the stop at 12 knots on a number of occasions - she would never have made that speed under power with a waterline length of ca. 25 ft.

Best,

Brian.
