My T500 had a 10mm pin in a stemhead fitting reinforced by a washer (tig?) welded all round.

There is a danger in this.

My Hustler 25.5 was similar but with a washer edge welded over the top semi-circle only.
This gave a stress concentration at the end of the weld, which broke just after rounding No Man's Land fort in the 2000 Round the Island.
Result, no forestay.

If the Hustler did not have a baby stay this would have been a lost mast, coming down over the cockpit with unthinkable results.

The Trapper does not have a babystay.

If in any doubt about the drilled out fitting, then a precaution could be to add a short strop, or solid s/s link, to another hole in the stemhead unit.
