Jonothan,
I was concerned when I read that the bottom of the ram pulled out??? Do you mean the bracket that is mounted on the back of the keel box, or the actual cylinder where the holes are located pulled through?. I have bolted mine right through the hull using the 3 bolts that are at the back of the keel box. the hulls about an inch thick and I mounted the U bracket onto a bar then utalised the 3 bolt holes and replaced the bolts with longer one and bolted up tight.
My roller is jamed solid and I cant get a blade up the back of it as it so jamed up with who knows what. It just acts as a slide, but I have experienced no problems to date with moving the keel.
To replace the existing roller frightned the living daylights out of me as it looks a bit close to the hull and it would mean cutting away the fiberglass at the front of the keel internally to replace the through bolt. and then making sure thatthe glassing over of the new one was perfect. I think that that would be the hard part as it is right on the bottom of the keel box and water and grease and cleaning fluids etc will have coated the glass and so cleaning that all down to get a good key,I think would be impossible. also it would probably entail cutting away some of the floor moulding to get access "NO THANKS".
I might have a go at the suggestion of 2 L brackets screwed in from the bottom with the legs going up the keel box and then tapped into the underside. Briliantlly simple and easy to manufacture.
Kim
