Hi Paul

The roller bolt on Fooster looked original and was 10mm stainless steel.

I like your idea of a roller constructed in two halves and fixed on the original bolt using set screws - four screws I presume? The set screws should not be on the centre line where the leading edge of the keel runs.

I would also be concerned about a stainless steel roller as per Kims suggestion. The roller is under quite high compression loads. A plastic roller roller deforms under these loads and increases the contact area unlike a steel roller. I think a steel roller would damage the antifouling on the leading edge of the keel. For my new roller, I used a softer plastic than nylon - polyurethane. I will report on the effectiveness of this when the boat comes out of the water.

I have also now recovered my original builders drawings of the keel and keel case construction and could lend them to anyone who is interested.

I raise my rudder clear of the water on leaving the boat.

Best wishes

Godfrey
