John, you are getting more aggressive with age, or perhaps it's withdrawal symptoms.

I agree, the Trapper will behave entirely differently to a long keel boat, but then so will any other fin keeler.

They slam far less than modern designs which are much more about sailing downwind at high speed.

they have a lot more weather helm than you would expect from a long keel design and won't allow you to walk off and leave the tiller, but then most fins wouldn't but many have more straight line stability.

they are a lot lighter than an equivalent sized long keel too, which will make a difference to their ability to punch waves.

However, compared to other fin keelers they stand up well, they have a good ballast ratio and are surprisingly sound in a blow.
