I would have been happy with 8mm, but 6mm seemed way too small considering all of the additional load transmitted by the roller reefing gear.

I'm guessing that the 6mm pin was original fitment when the boat had hank-on foresails. When the roller gear was fitted (before I got the boat), I think the pin should have been uprated but the hole in the stemhead fitting wouldn't take and it was too difficult to modify (see my last paragraph below) it so it was left at 6mm.

The hole in the fitting on the lower end of the roller reefing kit was made for a 10mm pin so I had a 6mm pin in a 10mm/6mm/10mm series of "holes" .....

Anyway, I've drilled out the stemhead fitting now to take 10mm, there was loads of "meat" on the stemhead fitting so although drilling it out will have weakened it, I think the forestay is now the weaker/weakest link so I should be OK. Well, I'm happier with it now :^)

Mind you, in order to drill out the forestay fitting, I had to first drill a 10mm hole at an angle through the pulpit so I could get the drill through to the forestay plate, if I ever get Blazer to another Trapper rally, you'll see what I mean :^)

Best Regards, Brian (only 2 weeks to go before relaunch !!)
