Hello Henry and Mary

I have added your details to the informal list of TS240s - thanks. I already had the boat listed.

I once saw a festival in Nepal where several thousand people were involved in raising a massive carved timber pole which must have weighed tons and been 100 feet high. The key was to get a prop under one end to raise it enough until the team pulling on the rope could take over, a similar problem to yours by the sound of it.

Our mast is probably original and can just be lifted by one strong person so the weight is probably 25 kg which makes it about 2.5 kg per metre. We raise ours by means of a tall prop at the transom and then use the spinnaker pole as a strut to the base of the mast with the forestay connected to the top of the spinnaker pole. A block and tackle from top of the spinnaker pole to the bow plus halyards to prevent sideway movement completes the rig.

We hope to be sailing past Beaulieu on the Saturday morning heading for Yarmouth. Give us a call on 07748 833833 if there is any chance of meeting.

Regards

Godfrey
