Sula is very hard mouthed, she even carries weather helm with just the genny out ..

its a 120% genny made by Ray Blackmore and about 7 years old now, sailing out of Cherbourg once with my nephew, he came over all physical and tore the main halyard cheekblock apart (didnt release the main sheet before hoisting and then put the winch on it for the last little bit!) so we spent the morning screaming backwards and forwards acros the Grand Rade with just the full genny up ......7 knots! and a light, slightly weather helm, and those cheekblocks arent available any more!

Im in Kafiga Landings so I have all states of tide. but hell yes the rust all over the boat! but what else can we expect as its a main port for the export of scrap steel!

Its a great coast to sail, but ........strange people .. Im a member of Hartlepool yc and I must say it has the record of the worst food Ive ever eaten! no, make that been served I didnt eat it! and that was at a club do ! Sunderland is strange too ....I quote "Im a visiting yachtsman" ............"can you prove that?" so much for "geordie friendliness"! all these ports and all they want is your money if they allow you in at all! Royal Northumberland YC at Blyth is the best of the bunch.

I fancy going in to Staithes some time (very pretty in a cornish sort of way but dries) even tho Sula is fin! Lindisfarne is well worth the effort and one of these days Im going to get just a little bit too close to Coquet Island lol! never mind, "oooohhh look at the puffins and the seal pups, look where your b****y going john" !

Oh BTW my main : when fully hoisted the boom is canted up clearing the spray hood by 18 ins or so ,if I dont release the main halyard before hoisting any tension applied runs from the headplate (UPHAUL)to the outhaul clew, (inside the roach!)and there is still about 6 ins to go on the hoist! so releasing the main halyard before hoisting is a must! if that gets stretched ...you have a droopy boom when you reef!

the sail roller furls very well giving a good clean shape to the sail and the boom only drops a little from full sail to fully reefed (5rolls)
John
