Anyone any idea about the construction of the T500 rudder. I would imagine there would be some sort of webs or braces welded to the rudder shaft inside the glassfibre shell. If anyone has a drawing of the inside structure that would be good.
I lay up ashore every year & always remove the rudder, turn it upside down & get a pint or two of water out of the (hollow) shaft which has presumably entered the rudder through the top where the s/s shaft enters the casing shell. My concern, is that I probably have stainless steel in contact with salt water during the season in an anaerobic situation. This can lead to undetected corrosion & the first I would know about it would be when the last weld, web or whatever holds it together, fails, & I go around in tight circles or whatever direction she wants to take me! Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but it would be good to know other peoples opinion on this.
