I suppose diesel is inert enough and there are plenty of plastic tanks around but I think I would be nervous about the fire hazard. I suppose anything is better than the original steel tank and the rusting thereof.

Reminds me that I was always aware to keep the tank full, especially over the winter, to keep the condensation area down and the resultant internal rusting. I still do that with my s.s. tank to avoid water contamination.

I thought a lot about a sophisticated fuel gauge when I fitted my new tank - ended up with a wooden calibrated dip stick. Can't beat the KISS principle.
