Hi, I would have though that there was a significant difference between a hydraulic lifting mechanism and a cable/rope/wire lift arrangement.

A hydraulic lifting mechanism is "double acting", i.e. it prevents keel movement in both directions, up as well as down. A cable operated system is presumably "single acting", i.e. it will prevent the keel moving down but do nothing to hinder upwards progress ?

OK I hear you say, gravity will hold it down ... bet that's what they all said before the '79 Fastnet, and I would imagine knock-downs are all part of normal life for a TS240 being aggressively raced. Is there a way of mechanically locking a TS240 keel down ?

It might also be interesting to hear what insurance companies think of the arrangement.

As always all the above is IMHO, and my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it etc. etc. etc.
