Mine were definitely gate valves, and when I tested then to see if they would shut, they fell apart. The thread holding the bonnet into the body of the valve had been eaten away with electrolisys. Boat boat got flooded and was quickly lifted out by Dover Harbour board.
I replaced with 2 new 1.5 inche brass valves, but did not link them up to the anode ring.
I keep a wary eye on them, but only when Im out the water.
