>>The pain of not having email addresses shown on the board is that nobody can arrange off board communication<<

Yes, I can appreciate that loss of visible and valid e-mail addresses must be a problem for members. However, as I earlier explained, after years of being spam-free, and lapsing in my stringent address shielding by once posting it here, the spam started trickling in. As recounted, I know it was collected from here because a scam one that I received from the Boys from Lagos was so stupid that other posters here were inadvertently included in the cc distribution list – I think that you also received that one.

But the situation deteriorated. If there is something worse than being on a spam generator’s distribution list, it is being shown as the sender of the spam messages; that is what happened to me. I am told that this is done to give the sender more validity and protection from the increasingly sophisticated spam detection procedures. Of course, this is only a temporary respite, the address is soon added to the black lists and the originator has to find a new victim.

But the result for me was that I was getting avalanches of rejected and undeliverable mail from all over the world. Not only that, but my own and other servers were beginning to block my genuine mail. There was only one solution; to change my e-mail address, which I did last week.

You will excuse me, I hope, if I don't post it here :-)

B.
