Hi Dave, My immediate advice is don't try and accomplish too much too soon. It is much more fun taking your time over things like this as there is always going to be something to look forward to. The first thing is to get the boat, but i would recommend a survey of the soundness of the hull and superstructure and the keel bolts because of the condition of some parts you desribed. If the basic constuction is sound, then it is a great opportunity for a rewarding project. The most important thing is to make her safe and seaworthy, so the wood grab rails must be replaced. As for levels of equipment, well that very much depends on your requirements and intended cruising grounds?. Sails can be repaired or modified if they are not in too bad condition, which should cost a fraction of new replacement items. If the boat is in need of a fair bit of work as you describe then £1000 is quite reasonable compared to the price of a good well equipped example (£2-3000). The annual cost of running any boat is deppendant on wether you maintain her yourself, shop around for moorings and insurance etc, and exactly how much love and attention you lavish on her, so a fixed price cannot be given, but a boat of this size is easily maintained by one person. As for what they are like to sail, well i am always rewarded on mine wether it is a spirited sail in a fresh or strong breeze, or just drifting slowly on a gentle breeze on a gorgeous day. You talk about loving abersoch, why not get in touch with some of the members on here who base and race at abersoch so may be willing to show you over their boats or eeven take you for a sail to eniighten you in the joys of the pandora, it's worth aking as the sailing fraternity are a freindly and helpful bunch. Lastly, depending on where you keep her (mooring and winter storage) a trailer may not be an essential, so the money you spend on a trailer can be better spent on the boat itself. I hope some of this hes been of use, as it is always nice to see new people on the rivers and around the coast, especially on such a capable and much underated and unappreciated little ship. Best of luck, Neil Lambton (Mistral)
