HI there, sorry to hear of your problems and forthcoming surgery.
I had my total hysto at 44, I did not gain weight, or suffer depression or anything, Initially there are some emotional ups and downs for some women, until you hormones settle down, but that's all I experienced.
I am on premarin (estroegen) and duphaston (progesterone)which keep me normal. If the thought of HRT bothers you, there are many excellent alternatives available that will do the same. Progesterone cream and many natural tablets.
