Subject: Progress nearly 3 weeks after Laproscopic Hysterectomy

I had a laprascopic hysterectomy on 15th December due to endometriosis, heavy periods, chronic low iron levels, an ovarian cyst and a uterine polyp. The worst pain was from getting my bowels to move again which took over a week. My pain relief was mismanaged I think by the hospital. I was given codeine which constipates you badly. As soon as I got home, I commenced taking 3000mg of Vitamin C daily and stool softeners. Then, I had a bladder infection. Took a few days for me to realise that some of my pain was coming from my bladder. Both the constipation and bladder infection has severely affected my recovery and levels of discomfort. I would recommend anyone heading off for this operation to ensure they are not given codeine and take some Vitamin C tablets to hospital with you and start taking as soon as possible. As I am still recovering, I would like to hear from anyone who has had this type of hysterectomy so I can compare the healing process to my experience so far.
