Subject: April 16th After Action Report

Gentlemen,

This was a very rewarding day for the Grays! We assembled outside the house, and were approached by one of the neighbors who inquired as to who we were. After first introducing ourselves as the neighborhood crime watch, we then told her who we are and what we were doing. She requested that we assemble in her front yard for pictures! Oh yes, the day started off fine!

The look in Miss Beck's eyes was priceless after Jeff Gibbs, Mark Jacobi, Paul Martin, Sgt. Ben Hatch, 1st Sgt. Bob Looney and I presented her with an original Southern Cross of Honor on behalf of the Order of Confederate Gray. In addition, Pvt. Martin presented Miss Beck with a book of artist Mort Kuntsler's paintings, and Sgt. Looney presented her with a fine necklace upon which hung an SCV logo medallion. I wish everyone could have seen how happy that young lady was!

We were invited to stay and partake of the dishes and deserts, and fine Southern hospitality the Ladies of the UDC are famous for. For those of you who might not know, boys those gals can cook! A big thank you to the Ladies from all of us for allowing us to help make Miss Beck's birthday one she'll always remember, and for the great company we all enjoyed by their courtesy afterwards!

April 23 and 24th is the reenactment at Mexia. As well, as you know we have been invited to assist in the dedication of the flagpole at Dido on Sunday the 24th. I will not be able to attend the dedication, but understand that several of you will, some leaving Mexia early to be there. Sgt. Hatch will lead the Honor Guard. I appreciate each one of you, and I know you do what you can.

April 30th will find most of you gentlemen of the 9th Texas Infantry in Jefferson. For those of you who go, poor it to 'em, boys!! Be safe, and come back in one piece! For any of you who cannot make Jefferson but will be available to go to Hamilton, there will be a dedication for 4 veterans buried there. Plans are to meet at the Hamilton Geneology building at 1:00 and caravan to the cemetery. I will inquire as to specific directions to the building and relay them later.

A couple of other events are in the works, but the next one set in stone is the dedication at Hackberry Flat Cemetery in Frederick, Oklahoma May 14th for Pvt. George W. Woodall of Co. G, 14th Texas Cav. Pvt. Woodall is listed on the Confederate Roll of Honor.

God be with you everywhere you go. Take care of yourselves, and may the time arrive with God speed that finds us together again.

YOS,

Lt. Preston Furlow
