Subject: Marker Dedication for 1st Lt. Mark Caudle

Gentlemen and Your Ladies,

We have been requested to help honor the memory of 1st Lt. Mark Caudle of the Mt. Vernon Greys. The Mt. Vernon Grays was a home guard unit in Mt. Vernon, Texas, and the descendants have asked the R.E. Lee Grays of the OCG coming out to honor the Lt. of the Mt. Vernon Grays. Cool, don't you think?!

The event is set for October 15, 2005 at the Old Providence Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. I will post the time and directions in timely advance. For you Gentlemen of the 9th Texas Infantry, this event will be after Corinth and before Liendo.

Fellows, I've always appreciated every one of you for your dedication and your efforts in participating in the various events we have done. I realize that in addition to the donation of time, a commodity that none of us really have a surplus of, fuel prices have gone ridiculously high. I would like to suggest that you folks might get together and car pool to this and future events. I live in Waxahachie, have a Yukon, and will gladly fill it with Rebs and gear. Besides, the looks poeple give us going down the road and at gas stations is absolutely entertaining!!

I would like to ake this time to thank Sgt. Ben Hatch, Sgt. Tom and Mrs. Judy Bennett, Commander Randy Arrick, and Bruce Pastusek for having made the long trek to Comfort, Texas last Saturday in order to fire the salute for Mrs. Mary Looney, late wife of 1st. Sgt Bob Looney. For those of you who could not attend, you were with us in spirit. As I said before, time is a commodity, and I appreciate you fellows no less but rather pray for your safe keeping as well while looking forward to the time we might all fall in ranks again. I also pray that it might be under better circumstances.

Take care and God be with each and every one of you!

Your Obedient Servant,

Cpt. Preston Furlow
