Subject: Blackland Cemetery

Saturday at Blackland Cemetery was quite a day! For those of us that take cemetery restoration and preservation to heart, it was like diving on a Spanish gold ship in the gulf! One of the surprises found was a bois d'arc grave marker with 'A.B. Webb' carved into it. I have never seen such first hand. As well, we found the hole where a Confederate headstone had once been placed, and is now gone due to theft.

A surprisingly remarkable amount of work was done Saturday. We got a lot further than we could have realistically hoped. Sgt. Dan and Judy Hastings, Commander Randy Arrick, Adjutant Tom and Judy Bennett, Don and Kathey Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. Balderama, thank you all so much for the hard work you put into this Saturday! We had a blast, had some dang good food and drink, and got a lot done!

For all who could not come out, I hope that you might be able to make it on our next effort. I say this not so much in the hopes for the additional help, but in the hopes that you might experience for yourselves what we did Saturday, for I do not have the words to adequately describe it.

Remember we will have a recruiting booth set up at Bellmead this coming weekend to recruit for Joe's Bivuoac. Also:
1. Saturday, May 22nd, at 2:00 pm. Ceremony for Sgt. Nimrod Thomas Coffee of Co. I, 27th Alabama Infantry. The dedication will take place at Big Spring Cemetery located at 6538 North Jupiter in Garland.
2. Sunday, May 23rd, Terrell State Hospital in Terrell. Dedication for several Confederate veterans interred there.

Please let me know if you can make it to any of these events.

YOS,

Lt. Furlow
