Subject: Stock Show Parade & Tundra Dedication

The Stock Show Parade was really an enjoyable way to spend a Sat. morning I thought. I had never before marched in a parade and to do so in Confederate uniform in my hometown with a score of other kindred spirits is a memory I will always treasure. Hope I get to see the picture taken on the Courthouse steps, the latest retake of the Confederate Grays group picture.
The Tundra Dedication was also a memorable event, though maybe not that enjoyable at the time. I spent the time outside the church before the start of our part of the ceremony thinking about the Confederate troops trying to escape from Fort Donelson. That was in February I believe and the weather was far worse for them as I understand. Pvt. Paul Martin and I speculated on the trip out that we might be the only rifles present on a day like that; but we soon saw that would not be the case with our group. I was both impressed and humbled by the turnout. From the information available to me, our Chaplain was Rev. Gary Whitfield at Cool Springs. And although the forecast called for the rain to stop that afternoon, the precise timing of the event, at that particular place, was profound. I've not been a very religious person in the past, but Rev. Whitfield, you've given me something to think about.
I think everything went great but we need to work on exiting the flanking of the grave and reforming ranks. That seems to me to be where the most polish is needed. This is only meant as a suggestion for further improving an already great public presentation. Also as a suggestion, whenever Dixie is performed we in full Confederate uniform could stand at attention throughout. That may enhance the impression of the Grays as the Confederate MILITARY Honor Guard in Texas.
I wish you all well and see you next time...
