Happy Birthday Kirk and John -- Cindy, 08:29:08 05/29/08 Thu(66-17-32-11.biz.visl.arrival.net/66.17.32.11)
Happy Birthday Wishes to Kirk Wall and John Marshall. May your day be blessed with joy, a few surprises, a lot of love and laughter!
fan club or contact info. John David (banjo) -- spawlett@hotmail.com, 11:20:57 05/21/08 Wed(S0106000fb5622467.vf.shawcable.net/70.68.127.7)
Would anyone know if John David (Bill from the Green Team) has a fan club or contact info. I was in Disneyland recently, and ended up on stage playing the little fiddle - for the 2nd time in 2 years -- both our trips to Disneyland I've landed up on stage - guess I was in the hot seat. Anyhow, Mr. David came and spoke to us after the show, recognized me from the year before. Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo. We went to see him play in California Adventure that same day, he was subbing for someone - but I once again forgot to get a photo.
Now we have an ongoing contest at work (I'm a nurse in Canada) - and I work with skeptics who don't believe I really did get to chat with a real 'disney' hillbilly!
Was hoping I could get a photo or some contact info? Thanks a bunch, Susan (spawlett@hotmail.com)

Yes, we're aware of and happy about Billy Red's TV commericals -- KAT, 15:28:03 02/11/08 Mon(pool-71-102-36-115.plspca.dsl-w.verizon.net/71.102.36.115)
To Quiet Robert, who flamed us for not noticing Billy Red's commercials:
1. The post has been deleted. We don't flame here.
2. These commercials were noticed here a long time ago. Kevin (Billy Red) even posted a note in that discussion that the fans were "awesome".
We love all our Billies and hope to see more of them on TV.

Kirk's Resting! -- Jan @ thebillys.net, 09:07:05 02/25/08 Mon(cpe-72-130-16-198.socal.res.rr.com/72.130.16.198)
In case, you haven't already heard, Kirk is on a much needed vacation until next Sunday.
Now's your chance to see a few other of the awesome Billy subs doing the show.
I saw Kevin yesterday doing some old and some new routines and he was very funny.
John Eaden is in today. They are still working on trying to get Cory too, but he's a busy boy these days.
Either way, enjoy life and treat yourself to a Billy Show today!
On a side note, I still didn't see the new Monorails and Toy Story over at DCA isn't even close to finish,
but I sat through the parade yesterday with a 65 year old woman from North Dakota who had always wanted to come to Disneyland her whole life.
Her husband was across the street at a convention and she was all alone.
Seeing the parade through her eyes for the first time was precious and reminds me of why Disneyland is so special.
It's a leveling ground for making all adults like 10 yr. old kids again, even if just for one day.

I'm so bummed! -- Jan Vincent @History of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon, 23:25:54 05/17/07 Thu(cip-64-155.bbs.surfcity.net/66.116.64.155)
This is slightly off topic but Golden Horseshoe related, none the less:
May 17, 2007 ~ Fulton Burley, an Irish tenor who for 24 years starred in the Golden Horseshoe Revue that was one of Disneyland's original attractions, died of heart failure May 7 at an assisted living facility in Carlsbad, the Walt Disney Co. announced. He was 84.
In 1962, Burley first appeared in the vaudeville-style musical comedy revue that had opened along with Disneyland in 1955. By the time the show ended its run in 1986, the Guinness Book of World Records had recognized the revue for giving the most performances — more than 45,000 — in the history of theater.
"He was a natural for it and had a delightful sense of humor," said Wally Boag, who developed the revue and performed alongside Burley for two decades. "When you went by his dressing room, you always knew you were going to hear a good joke."
At Disneyland, Burley also could be heard within the walls of the Enchanted Tiki Room as the voice of the audio-animatronic Irish parrot Michael.
Once the revue ended, Burley periodically toured the country hosting live shows to promote theatrical reissues of such Disney films as "Cinderella."
The son of a newspaperman, Burley was born in Toronto and raised in Windsor, Canada. By 14, he performed three mornings a week on the radio before school and went on to sing with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
He attended Patterson Collegiate Institute in Windsor and Wayne State University in Detroit but left to sing the lead in Billy Rose's "Diamond Horseshoe Revue" in New York City. He landed the part by auditioning over the telephone.
MGM scouts spotted him in the show and put him under contract. At the studio, he met Boag, and the two appeared as Canadian fliers in the 1945 film "Thrill of a Romance."
During World War II, Burley served in the Army. His commanding officer was actor Melvyn Douglas, and he traveled to China, Burma and India, according to Disney.
After the war, Burley toured the United States in musical productions for several years. He was appearing in Las Vegas when Boag called to tell him the 7-year-old show at Frontierland's Golden Horseshoe Saloon had an opening.
Walt Disney hired him, and Burley began appearing five times a day in a show performed 52 weeks a year.
"Everyone seemed to love him," Boag said, "and we had fun, always."
Burley's wife of 62 years, Terry, died in January. He is survived by a sister, Betty Doggrell, of Scarborough, Canada.

Betcha didn't know it...but I'm a fiddle player...also! -- Tracy-BillyLynn, 00:02:33 12/13/07 Thu(pool-71-104-117-113.lsanca.dsl-w.verizon.net/71.104.117.113)
This Tuesday I was plucked from the crowd and forced to perform on stage at the Golden Horseshoe with Billy Hill and The Hillbillies. Apparently I was checking them out. I was with of a group of 4 friends (two whom really wanted to be picked) and he had to pick the ONE who dreaded it the most...I wouldn't even give him eye contact during the show in hopes he wouldn't notice me...that worked well.
The day I 'fiddled' around with the Hillbillies
I managed to live through the ordeal...and looking back I think I even had fun! I just hope the fame doesn't ruin me.
*I did my time so this means I am exempt from future pickings right?

A girlfriend and I have reservations at the Plaza Inn for breakfast tomorrow.
They told us that starting on Friday, there would be a Holiday surcharge tacked on. I don't know if this is just for the restaurants where reservations are necessary or all the restaurants in the park. I know that they are also doing this at WDW.
Support your local Sallie Mae (and the sheriff, too, of course) -- Hillary Kelley, 07:00:59 12/15/07 Sat(NoHost/65.54.155.11)
This week, for the first time since I got my annual pass, the showtimes for Laughtingstock are NOT listed in the show schedule handed out at the gate. When I asked about this at guest relations, I was told that the troup may be on vacation, or working in other areas. This, as it turns out, is not true, but it wasn't until I found an entertainment manager to ask that anyone finally admitted the troup is still performing Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
The new Holiday show is a gem, and these shows well deserve their place on the publicly announced schedule. Please, if you come to DLR this week, take a few minutes to stop at guest relations and ask when Laughingstock is performing. Then, if enough inquiries are made, Disney may not omit them from the printed sheet again.

It was Saturday and I felt like doing something different, so I became a married women again. Ray and I had a traditional Scottish wedding at our church in Westminster with family. It was a very cold, windy day and he wore a kilt and I had a strapless dress. BRRR!
Just thought you'd all like to know! I am keeping my previous name for legal reasons, but you can call me Mrs. Dines if you'd like the next time you see us at the park.

Golden Horseshoe Related -- Jan, 09:00:51 11/01/07 Thu(cip-64-55.bbs.surfcity.net/66.116.64.55)
This is Golden Horseshoe related, but I thought it was very cool, so I'm writing about it.
Last Monday night, I attended a memorial service at the Disney Studios in Burbank for GH Revue star, Fulton Burley who died in May. It was the most awesome event I have ever been to. Every past star of the Golden Horseshoe Revue was in attendance and many touching tributes were given. In attendance were GH Revue comedian Wally Boag; GH Revue tenor, Jay Meyers, GH musician, Chris Stevens; Disney animator, Tony Baxter; GH Variety Show host, Dana Daniels; GH Revue star, Dick Hardwick; entertainment boss, Stan Frees; and a host of other Disney musicians and Can-can girls from the original show.
I am hoping to get an article written soon for The History of the Golden Horseshoe Pages at Jansworld, but thought I'd share the information now.
This brings me to my next point. Next March, I am helping sponsor a Golden Horseshoe Reunon Show in Anaheim that will be in honor of Wally Boag and the original cast. Performing that night will be Dick Hardwick, Dana Daniels and our own, Kirk Wall along with other past castmembers. Tickets are available through the 1313 Club.
As soon as I have more info I will add it here. Tickets are expected to go rather quickly.

Dear Fellow Billy Hill fans,
The Voy message boards have been hit recently with a large number of sex-related spam messages. It's become a full time job lately just keeping up with spam-removal. I have 5 Voy Message boards of my own and just last night removed over 157 spams from my various boards.
In an effort to curb these spams temporarily [until Voy Systems gets their act together], I have briefly turned off the HTML feature of this board.
That is why you can not see photographs, etc. Be patient. I am giving it a week or two until Voy gets back to me with a better suggestion.

KIRK WALL: LOVING FANS TENDER -- TracyLynn, 16:14:06 09/24/07 Mon(pool-71-104-254-191.lsanca.dsl-w.verizon.net/71.104.254.191) Soooo I did a search on The Continental Room for a project I'm working on and found an extra special treat...thought you guys would like to read this.
The nostalgic Continental Room in Fullerton showcases Elvis impersonator Kirk Wall
Kirk Wall. the "self-proclaimed best Elvis impersonator in Fullerton," serenades patrons of the Continental Room in downtown Fullerton.
Prior to going on stage, the man everyone is waiting for casually finishes off a bottle of Corona - his only pre-show ritual. As the anticipation in the room steadily builds, the stage curtain is finally opened to reveal a man adorned in a custom-made white jumpsuit. It's Kirk Wall, "the self-proclaimed, best Elvis impersonator in Fullerton."
Step into the dimly lit, intimate, nostalgic Continental Room in downtown Fullerton on a Wednesday night, and you'll be treated to what might be one of the bustling area's best-kept secrets.
"We had one guy prior to him and he was good, but he wasn't as good as Kirk," said Sean Francis, owner of the Continental Room for the past four years. "When he gets up on stage he's as close to Elvis as you can get."
Wall, who comes from a musical family, has been an Elvis Presley impersonator for 20 years and a professional performer in some form or another for even longer.
A classically trained opera singer, Wall's first experience singing was in the church choir, of which his father was the director.
"[While singing] a lot of the gospel songs, I started sounding more like Elvis than my dad wanted me to sound like," Wall said. "It was fun to make the choir laugh."
Wall was in several rock'n'roll garage bands as a youth before finding his niche as a performer with various aliases.
Besides his regular gig as Elvis at the Continental Room, the Fullerton resident also performs at Disneyland five days a week as Billy Hill and the Hillbillies.
Despite having such a diverse musical background, Wall has always had an affinity for Elvis Presley.
"Elvis, without a doubt, was always my favorite singer, and I never ever thought I would be an Elvis impersonator until I did the musical "Grease," which I've done five professional productions of," Wall said.
The Continental Room, which is at 115 W. Santa Fe Ave. lies slightly off the "strip" that is downtown Fullerton.
Established in 1925, the Continental Room, with it's vintage-style booths, full-length bar, and small stage complete with red curtain, seems a fitting a place for a good old Vegas-style Elvis show.
Wednesday nights consist of three to four sets of Wall singing live, performing Elvis tunes over tracks played by a DJ. While he's thought about incorporating non-Presley tunes into the show, for now it remains-strictly classic Elvis tunes.
"There's too many Elvis aficionados, even young ones, that might get bent out of shape," Wall said.
The show attracts everyone from curious first-timers who've heard about it to clueless patrons just looking to have a drink or to out-of-town regulars.
"People get up, they dance, they sing, it's awesome," said Francis, who also owns the nearby Slidebar on Commonwealth Avenue.
When asked if people come out specifically to see Wall's Elvis, Francis responded, "I know they do."
"I get a whole lot of return people that come regularly," said Wall, who has been the resident Elvis for about three years now.
Amy Abelaars, 22, was attending her second show and came specifically to see Wall. "We pretty much came to hear Elvis," Abelaars said. "It's just fun, even his costume is sparkling, and it's just great. We'll definitely come back."
Janette Ortiz, 21, came all the way up from San Diego just to see Elvis.
Wall, who seems to engage everyone in the room, plays it up even more when the crowd eggs him on. A true showman, it's a thrill to see him go through his set while constantly throwing quips to the crowd.
"I do a little tongue-in-cheek, not completely fully serious," Wall said. "There's too many of those guys. I think I'm a little more comfortable just being a little off."
When asked what his favorite part of being the resident Elvis at the Continental Room is, Wall said, "I appreciate seeing how much young people today are still just loving him as much as they ever have."
When asked what his least favorite part is, Wall took a breath and paused before responding, "Drunk chicks asking for me to sing 'Hound Dog.' I always do it but they never seem to hear it."
However, not wanting to end on a sour note, Wall had this to say about his experience so far here in Fullerton: "What keeps me going is how nice the Continental Room has been to me along with the patrons."
The King couldn't have said it better himself.
The night I went. Can't wait to go back! And not a one of us asked him to sing Hound Dog! ;)

Tom is getting movers and is taking off work Oct 15th and 16th, but the place is officially ours as of the 8th. We'll also be out of town Halloween Week for a conference for Tom's work. Hope to be at Oct. 20 Swingtown.
Billy Red haunting Knott's Berry Farm -- KAT, 16:26:48 09/29/07 Sat(pool-71-102-48-206.plspca.dsl-w.verizon.net/71.102.48.206)
Hi all. Sorry I haven't made it to Disneyland since renewing my annual pass last December. Last night I got to Orange County for the first time since then for the Knott's Haunt. It was fun to see one familiar face on stage. Billy Red, aka Kevin Gregg, who many of us also knew from Laughing Stock, is starring at the Bird Cage Theater as Doctor Cleaver in "Death of Doctor Cleaver". Don't worry, he doesn't just play a corpse. You won't want to miss that show if you go to the Haunt.
By the way, for the first time ever we were able to see all the Haunt shows and mazes and still ride a couple of roller coasters, which we've never managed before. Here's the trick to seeing as much as possible of the Haunt.
1. Go as early in the season as you can.
2. Get reservations at 6:00 or earlier and attend the pre-scare dinner, from which they let you into the park a few minutes before the 7:00 opening time for the rest of the public.
3. Go on the Haunt-decorated Log Ride and Mine Ride before doing anything else. These get long lines quickly, so going on them first, before the rest of the public gets in, saves you lots of line time. (We always went to the nearest mazes before and never covered the whole haunt.)
Sorry, I didn't take a camera, so will just have to post an old picture of Kevin, now "Dr. Cleaver" at his debut as Billy Red:

I found this video on youtube, showing part of Laughingstock's show inside the 'Shoe. I recognize Ken as the Mayor and believe that Cory is Clem (it's a little hard to tell because the video is grainy and he doesn't speak), but am not sure which Sally Mae had the great line about a fast pass. Any ideas??

Episode #55 "Love and Marriage"
November 12, 1986
Written by Dan Gordon
Directed by Michael Landon
Three generations of bickering couples embark on a trip back in time, courtesy of Jonathan and Mark, to learn just what it was that first brought them together.
The three couples fantasies all come true, with Jonathan and Mark laboring to prevent their impending weddings from turning into a fiasco.
This full-length episode aired the night of November 12, 1986 and opens up with the fourth anniversary of Jonathan and Mark celebrating their favorite memories, with flashbacks to the pilot, "Change of Life" and "A Match Made in Heaven".

Bill Erwin as Clarence

Trivia note: Michael Landon and Kent McCray had to change this episode's original form for syndication to Genesis Entertainment in 1988 for daily reruns.
This feature-length story was originally made and aired as one whole in 1986. For syndication, Michael and Kent split it into two parts, did some editing, inserted the closing titles and redubbed the 1987-88 music cue by David Rose to make the end of part one.
They took the opening titles with the redubbed 1987-88 music cue and made part two that opens up the second half of the story for syndication. The closing titles are also accompanied by the redubbed 1987-88 music cue that concludes the story.
Location Scenes Filmed at Los Angeles, California.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DISNEYLAND! 52 years and still going strong! -- Scarlett, 11:20:37 07/17/07 Tue(71-134-37-29.ded.pacbell.net/71.134.37.29)
What a day it was, two years ago. For those that braved the crowds that day, do you remember? If you need a visual reminder, go to my Billy website and check out a couple of photos I put up. We were a group of 8 who started out in the massively long line that wound throughout DCA in the wee hours of the morning (4:45 a.m., although others had been there all night long--we weren't that crazy). After a certain amount of people, they cut it off and left all the others to wait out in the main plaza between the two parks. When the gates opened, all of those in the long line at DCA got to go in first, at about 6:30 a.m. The crazy pin people among our group which were, well, ok, basically our entire group, made a beeline for the other massively long line of limited merchandise, where we stood in line from 7 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Then it was over to get a good spot in front of the castle for fireworks and the other presentations that went on throughout the day.
Ah, those were the days!!! Happy 75th Birthday Disneyland, here we come!!!
Off topic of Billies but not off-topic of Disney. Another sad passing... -- Scarlett, 12:01:23 07/03/07 Tue(71-134-37-29.ded.pacbell.net/71.134.37.29)
Disney Animator Art Stevens Dies at 92
Jul 2, 4:50 PM EST
The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- Longtime Disney animator Art Stevens, who began his studio career working on "Fantasia" and went on to co-direct "The Fox and the Hound" and "The Rescuers," has died. He was 92.
Stevens died May 22 at his home in Studio City after a heart attack, Disney spokesman Howard Green said.
Stevens applied for a job at Disney in 1939 after he learned that Walt Disney planned an animated feature based on one of his favorite stories, "Alice in Wonderland," which eventually came out in 1951.
In his early years at Disney, Stewart was an "in-betweener," who created the drawings that made the characters move on the screen after the main animator had outlined the scene. He worked on "Fantasia," "Bambi" and other 1940s features before becoming a full-fledged animator with the 1953 film "Peter Pan."
Among Stevens' other credits as an animator were "101 Dalmatians," "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day," "Robin Hood," "Mary Poppins" and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks."
He co-directed the 1977 film "The Rescuers" and co-produced and co-directed "The Fox and the Hound," which became Disney's highest-grossing film when it was released in 1981.
Stevens also worked on the Academy Award-winning Disney shorts "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom" and "It's Tough to Be a Bird," and he helped animate the title sequences for live-action features such as "Freaky Friday" and "The North Avenue Irregulars."

Slightly off topic, but at Starbucks right now is a limited edition Sir Paul gift card, using the pic from his new album (also at Starbucks) -- McScarlett, 11:43:53 06/26/07 Tue(71-134-37-29.ded.pacbell.net/71.134.37.29)
I bought the album and listened to it. If you can get past the first couple of songs, the rest of the album is quite good. Some songs are a definite throw-back to the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour era. Enjoy!
