Subject: A Sad Farewell To Several Disneyland Park Icons

As many of you know, last week said farewell to several musical groups at Disneyland. Swing Souffle, the Firehouse Quartet and the Main Street Mercantile Band were dismantled and select musicians were picked to make one Dixieland Interactive Band (after the marching band finishes in the morning).

Well, as of Sept. 4, 2006, we say goodbye to 3 more musical groups. The weekend of Sept. 4 sees the last musical performances of the Side Street Strutters, the Bayou Brass and the River Rascals. It is unknown at this time what will be planned for the NOS area. The only musicians being kept are the Royal Street Bachelors and Ernie. The Side Street Strutters have been playing jazz in NOS for over 20 years. The River Rascals have been playing their Cajun/Zydeco music for the past 7 years. Bayou Brass has been around for at least 5 years, but could be longer.

Disney Management is making these changes for who knows why but this author wonders why they would take away all the atmospheric charm of NOS?

...I talked to Rod Miller at Mrs. Knott's Restaurant last Sunday night and he had pretty much told me the same thing. Disney is cutting back so many entertainment acts, it makes me wonder why they have so many middle level management people in the entertainment division still. Who are they managing if they cut out everybody?

If you want to "please" younger crowds, line main street with video arcades and "Red Bull" vending machines. If you want to offer families world class entertainment of the quality and variety no other venue offers, stay with Walt's concept of the last 50 years. If you want to pad your resume for your next high level corporate job, come to work for Disney and kick some ass. Fire long term employees, cut costs, and squeeze even more money out of the park than your predecessor.
If you don't want to have more than one or two people at your funeral (may it be a long time away), keep being THAT callous, silent bob.

.... I don't see anything wrong with members of this board expressing their sadness at the thought of losing dear friends and co-workers to budget cuts. These musicians have families and being unemployeed is a terrible fate for many of them. Maybe we can not change the circumstances, but we can damn well be upset and sad about it and express those thoughts here. Deal with it, Bob!

I am very sorry to all of the hard working and talented musicians that this will be affecting. I pray that you will all find an even better gig in an even happier place. ...and that we can all go enjoy your music again, very soon.

Thank you all for the beautiful music! The park and NOS will not be the same without you all.

This sucks! :(

...at the very least, you'll get a nice return letter from Disney execs. I did. :)

And this goes for any place that you go--to restaurants, hotels, etc. Writing letters about a negative experience (or a positive experience) is always appreciated to let upper management know what they need to fix or leave alone.

.... I sort of doubt it. Disneyland Resort now has a new president. In order to look good, he needs to show a profit. The 50th anniversary is over and this next year is expected to be a rather flat year attendence-wise. Disney is trimming everything they can off the park budget because they need to show a profit to the shareholders.
