I just don't see where your data comes from. We haven't fought that many fighters!

I can see that the fighter will require appropriate magic items for his level - D20 games seem to make sure that is a requirement - but I can't see that it would make for an instant death for the fighter.

I would think a fighter that routinely fought mages would have feats like Iron Will and a high Wisdom, as well as having ranged weapons.

As you have pointed out before, I tend to forget about ranged weapons when making up NPCs. Anyway, the theory may or may not be true. Maybe fighters can't stand up to a wizard. I only know one way to find out...

Look for some fighters in future games.
