I'm sorry but I really don't think that the attitude that NA is the ONLY way is helpful. I could just as easily say that NA is YOUR "crutch", that without it you wouldn't be clean. Without methadone I would not have been able to quit & stay off dope. If I were just to have used methadone as a way to help with a short-term detox I would have been right back using again because I also needed time to deal with the MENTAL addiction, get my life back to normal, etc. Methadone, as I said, does NOT make you high unless you are on way too high a dose, is not at all like using, & you must be sadly misinformed if you believe it is "more powerful" than heroin & that methadone is "heroin in its purest form", neither of which is true. Thanks for the kind words, but you have to realize that there are many ways to get off heroin, none of which are necessarily "better", just whatever works for someone to make their life better & enable them to stop using dope should be applauded. Also, I have to admit, religion will not help me as I am not a religious person. If it helped you that's awesome, whatever works for you, but it does not mean that asking for help from Jesus or a "higher power" is the only way to go or that it will work for everyone. I can't get help from something/someone I don't believe in, nor do I feel I should have to agree with your beliefs on methadone. I like to research & make up my own mind on things instead of just automatically believing without question everything NA says. I agree NA can be a powerful tool & has helped many people, but, like anything in life, I think one should take & use the parts that they agree with & ignore the ones they don't. Feeling ashamed of myself or disregarding all the progress I've made & hard work I've accomplished to get clean does not help anyone, except maybe you to feel superior & self-righteous.
