When I came off methadone I got down to 20mg of methadone then went to 8 * 30mg of dhc for 3 days, then 7 for 3 days etc. Speaking for myself codeine is only about 1/2 as effective or less as dhc and I wouldn't bother with it for such a withdrawel. However, I've never ever had any drugs left over from anything I've done high or sober, so if someone here has come off heroin and has some codeine left afterwards then they're off to a good start.
