No one writes like Mr. McEwan. His unique style brings him great success. From interviews I think he is a kind atheist who is shocked by human suffering. I wouldn't be surprised if he and the well-know atheist Richard Dawkins are friends. They have the fear secularists have since they have nothing but intellect when disaster strikes. Mr. McEwan explores the dark side of life with great skill. Two good books with a similar message (if not style) Are Dubus "House of Sand and Fog" and "The Tattooed Girl" by Joyce Carol Oates.
