There are literary characters that perhaps inspired Robbie and Cecilia.

In Howards End by E.M. Forster there are some similarites between Leonard Bast and Helen Schegal's relationship in terms of class and his downfall. Although as individuals they are very different from Robbie and Cecilia.

As for real life letters, I don't know. Like Briony, I suspect you may find help at the Imperial War Museum!
