Now that you mention it I too have a feeling that I have seen just such a component in a tv series i.e. something being left in a car leading to suspicion etc.
It may be a sort of thriller/drama cliché like when people wake up in bed and they reach out to the other side of the bed and the other person is gone, I must have seen it hundreds of times.
Anyway, I think we have seen this particular sequence in an episode of Morse or the Midsomer Murders.
By the way - where did Jed appear from that day?
