Arnold Nestler is correct in his comments regarding The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. However, the singles referred to were namely "My Bonnie" credited to Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers (The name The Beatles being considered too risque in Germany, as it sounded like the word "peedles", German slang for penis )released in August 1961 and "Love Me Do" released in October 1962. The cover version of Chuck Berry's, "Roll Over Beethoven" alluded to in the book didn't appear until the release of "With The Beatles" in November 1963.

The Stones' first single "Come On" wasn't released until June 1963 and as the book is set in the summer of 1962 and the two groups are referred to in a flashback to the previous year then it would've been impossible for Edward to have played their records. Unless, of course, he'd been moonlighting as a talent scout for both Parlophone and Decca and consequently had access to bootleg material!
