I disagree. I think part of the beauty of the story is that you're not bluntly hit over the head with it. I think the way McEwan communicated the sexual abuse was perfect, just enough for most readers to suspect it was there. I much prefer reading about her disguist for her father physically and his over excitement about her wedding and thinking about what could be behind that to just having everything spelled out for me.

Well done Ian a wonderful novel!
