The schoolyard atrocities are in the film, not in the book. Apparantly this scene was changed for some mysterious reason. No atrocities of this sort took place during "the blitzkrieg" into France by the German Army. In fact they (the soldiers) were instructed to not be rough with the civilians in the anticipation of the possibility of them (the Nazis) becoming an occupying force. The last thing they wanted were partisans the nature of which they went up against in Russia. And, strange as it may seem, the relative civility worked...at least in the early years of the occupation.
Someone should ask director Joe Wright and the author why the change and why they included a historically inaccurate fact.
