it took me 6 months to finish atonenment - i read and read chapters, jumping back and forth like the plot. It is beautifully written, clever, evocative and emotional, the end haughting and tragic. The rich narrative kept me spellbound, I really believed in the main characters, willing them to end their days in happiness. After finally seeing the film, i am reading the book again, the story line is still captivating - and for me it will certainly go down as one of this decade's classics.
