I thought the ending was excellent. It was really intriguing and suprising, and in a sense I was glad that it was not a happy hollywood ending. the ending made the book more realistic and it contributed to the excellency of this book. Robbie and Cesilia were neve reunited, that was all in Briony's head, and the fact that there is such a thin line between fantasy and reality makes the novel such a fantastic pieces of work. I thought that The Child in Time for instance had a much too happy hollywood like ending. Atonement is the best novel I ever read and in my opinion the ending really makes the book into a masterpiece
